Getting Lessons Started, In Person or Online
Want a good class? Have a strong start! This goes well beyond just asking how students are when looking at them after the bell rings or across a screen. We want to both establish rapport and optimize their learning, and doing both can be done in person and online. For this, we'll look at several ways of getting a class going using images, games, discussion tools, and short videos. All the tools we consider are multi-platform and freely available.

How Students Benefit from SkillStack
SkillStack is a microcertification platform that allows Idaho’s educators to validate skills; leading to industry-relevant digital badges and/or college credit.  These credentials confirm mastery of skills or concepts and they are recognized by industry and the Idaho State Board of Education. Through demonstration and assessment, educators measure skills in SkillStack® that translate into a digital badge. Digital badges are a visual representation of a microcertification and are embedded with data that verifies student’s skills and achievements. This year, Idaho reached a milestone of 50,000 badges earned by learners since 2016. During this session, attendees will:
Explore Idaho’s journey and challenges along the way.

What K-12 SEL Looks Like As We Rise To The Moment: Neuroscience, Student Coping Strategies, And Educator Leadership
Leaders are escalating the value of the “whole learner”. It’s not just about academics, it is also about social-emotional skills. In the past few years, we have learned that an SEL program can not simply address a few discrete tasks or mitigate a crisis.  The program must be able to address the reactive and be equipped to teach the proactive. It must meet a broad range of needs.  This session will enmesh neuroscience and how it impacts student behavior from Kindergarten until the age of 25.  It will show how educators can teach students skills and strategies, using Purpose Prep curriculum, that will impact student outcomes in today’s classroom and well into life.   This session will empower administrators, counselors, and teachers, as we collectively look for innovative ways to rise to the moment.
